Timing my BN

I know this is an old topic, but please be patient with me! I am going nuts trying to get my BN timed and running. I pulled the magneto and followed the instructions in my manual. Aligned the rotor to point at #1, Got the #1 cylinder at top dead center (looked into the spark plug hole and assured that it was on the compression and not the exhaust stroke), then turned the mag till the impulse clicked. But it won't run! Any help will be appreciated!
