Warren: I put 60,000 hours on five Farmalls with TA, and only ever rebuilt one TA. Three rules cover it; shift it quick, never let it freewheel and keep it adjusted by the manual and to the letter. Close does not count on adjustment. The opinion that it should not be used all day on low side is bunk. I have worked these tractors where it suited for the job. Where that idea comes from I'll never know. It probably is good advise if you are working on hills as you are bound to forget as you go over the crest of the hill and it will free wheel on you. That is very likely the background. So not bad advise. It however has nothing to do with inner workings of the TA. I would guess my tractors worked 40% of time on low side, it was level ground.
