Now for the really stupid questions, since I haven't taken a valve cover off.
Are valve cover gaskets still available (IH/CASE dealer) or should I be prepared to make one? Should the feeler gauges I use for sparkplug gapping be OK for this? Where exactly do I check the gap? Should all the gaps be the same, no matter at what point the pistons/camshaft has stopped? I read somewhere in the archives that you can actually run the engine with the valve cover off. That way you can tell if there's oil getting to the valve train. Is that possible? I seem to remember seeing someone actually tighten down something on the value train while an engine was running.
