I've got a 686 the same basic tractor as the 544 just a little more hp. Look at the side of the tractor when pushing down the clutch. a lever should be putting the TA in low when the clutch is close the the bottom of its travel. If it's not their are two bolts on the lever that can be loosened to adjust this. Operate the TA and clutch to see where the two should come in contact with each other.
