Bill, there were two different brake operating systems. The later one had a pivot point actuator and the early is a straight rod to the shoe, if I remember right. I'm not sure when the change-over took place, my 53 has the early type. Someone may have changed the final drive to a later type. The hole in the dash may be for the light switch.
