M jumps out of 5th gear

I have just purchased a 1943 M and all the gears work, but you can not get up to speed in 5th. Even if you try to hold it in gear, it jumps out. When shifting the stick shift goes in deep in all the gears but 5th, it feels like it only goes in half way and has a positive stop. Also does the transmission and rear end take standard gear oil (85-90) It also has a belly hydraulic punp, what grade of fluid shoud it use. Thanks Greg
