Dave: If I remember correctly those were just a piece of pipe. Correct me if wrong. I had a similar situation last week and I was in a remote area. A male hydraulic fitting broke off in a cylinder. I went to the nearest little village hoping to find an eeze out that would work. a local machine shop geared me up with a hack saw blade, a roll of wiring tape and six small chisels. I went back to the bush, wraped the center of saw blade with tape for a handle. I then sawed into the fitting in cylinder, four directions from center. Then with the use of the chisels I was able to collapse the broken end of hydraulic fitting. When you saw into wall of pipe , just go to point of striking threads of the female fitting. All you need do is weaken the walls of the broken piece.
