M charging problem

I converted my M to a 12volt alternator but it wont charge. Bob M has a very good diagram that I have followed but I think my problem might be the double pull double throw switch I got. Mine has two places on it for the wires to hook onto. Should it have six like the diagram. The parts guy said this is the same one and should work. The alt checked out good when I had it tested but the ammeter wont show a charge. Thanks for any help.
