Black rubber material on deck?

Hi all,

On my '50 C, there is a piece of old rubber material affixed to the deck of tractor...there's only a little left, just about 10 square inches worth, back behind were my left foot would rest. The rest of the deck is clear. I'm wondering if it was a stock component of the tractor or something that was added on later. Also, if it were an original part, did it cover the complete deck or just part of it?

It looks like it would be useful...keeping the driver from slipping when climbing on or off the tractor. I figure if it's a good idea, I would use a heavy construction adhesive to glue on a piece of neoprene. Any "gotchas" I should be thinking about?
