IH Distributor question

I am rebuilding a distributor for a farmall cub. While taking it apart I noticed a grease fitting in the "neck" or small part of the distributor. There is also a small hole on the back for the grease to squeeze out. However, there is no hole in the bushing for the grease to get to the shaft. Why does it need grease here? Does the bushing absorb the grease or should there be a hole in the bushing? Thanks.
