826 that FREEZES up in cold...

We have an 826 (gear drive) that is absolutely horrible in the cold. Today, I started it, let it warm up, and realized it was going to be another typical day in cold weather for that tractor. Absolutely no power steering, no brakes, no engine braking, no TA, and no top speed. I picked up a round bale (don't ask how I managed to perform all of my tasks for the day) and hauled it two miles to my farm ("Home" or main farm two miles from my house and heifer/dry cow/steer barn), dropped it off, went out about 3/4 of a mile through fields to pick up a fodder bale, drove back, dropped it off, went back and picked up another hay bale, dropped it off, drove two miles back, and still nothing had "thawed out." I have known this tractor to do this for as long as I have driven it (5 years) but today it really (urinated) me off. If I use it long enough or it is a bit warmer than 22 degrees, it will SUDDENLY, and I mean SUDDENLY kick in, and I'll have brakes, steering, TA, and a tractor to move right along with. Why does it do this? Why does it fix so suddenly? Is there any easy repair? Thanks guys for reading this.
