Many people get confused with oils. The W is for Winter use. SAE 30 is not for winter. SAE 10W is rated for winter use, since the temps he says aren't going to be above the 30's or 40's, 10W oil is recommended. SAE 30 is for warmer temps. Also, non-detergent oil is best for engines in unknown condition as it won't break sludge loose. Regular, detergent oils will break the sludge loose and clog up oil passages. Personally, I use 15W-40 in my H since I only get a few hours on in the winter and don't want to change oil so often.
