M smoking,but its not the engine!

Decided to do a little bush hogging today,after about 4 hrs or so I started smelling oil burning,looked down at the left brake housing and smoke was just boiling out,stopped after a few minutes.I made my way home and tore into it and found the seals,which I put in about a yrs ago, shot,the rubber had melted and the brake band was broke,these were put in the same time as the seal.It was broken down near the botom of the drum,how that happened Ill never know.My question is,had anyone had the same thing happen with their brake bands from Case/IH?Thats where I got these from and wondered if it was a problem.
