Well assuming that you could find all the parts it would be quit a job. First off It involves more that just changing first/reverse sliding gear. These are the differences. The first/reverse sliding gear is different (53 teeth) Second the the reverse idler gear is different. Third The transmission countershaft and first speed driving gear is different. In the Low speed counter shaft has the first speed driving gear made right on the counter shaft because it is quit a bit smaller. With the standard first speed the first & second speed is 2 gears made as a unit. If were going to attempt this conversion I would find a parts H that had this low speed first and swap everything. Another catch is that IH made to different counter shafts for the low speed. One for a power take off and one without. Also in this low speed option a lot of the tractors had the low speed first and a 7 mph 4th. As far as the suffix that indicates what 1st it has I don't have that book. I should but I don't. I'm sure some one on this excellent board does. Hope this helps. If you don't have an H parts book you should get one. It gives you a break down of all the parts.

The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel.
