farmall gas tank cap

Anyone out there with a cure for gas cap leaking on a Farmall Cub. I've repainted the tractor and do not want to ruin my paint job! I would rather stay with the old cap instead of a new one since the new one just doesn't have the character that the old one does. Before I painted the tractor, I cut and fitted a cardboard insert into the old cap, it helped a little. THANKS
