You are correct. The cover on the left side of the engine is where you go. Not real easy to get to. I think the manual says to remove the manifold and presumably the carb to get to it. In addition, I think there are the hydraulic lines in the way, but you may be able to get the cover off without messing with the hydraulics and mav be able just to remove the carb. I have not tried so I can't tell you for sure. Beyond that, you will need to reference the manual as I don't have mine with me.
