Shutters were installed on tractors that were designed to burn distilate fuel. You started them on gas and let them warm up with the shutters closed and then switched them over to the distilate. You are correct in assuming that most dual fuel tractors have had the shutters removed over the years after folks quit burning distilate fuel. I think a lot of those shutters are in the fence rows across America as they became a nuisance to most when they got rusty and wouldn't open and close like they were designed to do. I just restored a '51 Super C that was never a distilate burner and it has fully operational shutters on it. Kinda nice if I want to warm it up in a hurry.//FB
