David, one of my A's came with the same problem you have. Here is how I got mine out.

First of all the exhaust diverter is mounted to close to the manifold to get any kind of a wrench on it. I took all of the plumbing parts off of the diverter, then I heated the manifold collar with a torch and then with a punch I started tapping the diverter counter clockwise, which unscrewed the pipe from the manifold.

By unscrewing it from the manifold it also cleaned the threads as it backed out, which makes it possible to screw in the new pipe. Welding cast iron (which is what the manifold it) is not the easiest thing to do, so I like this way best. GOOD LUCK.
