Terry: Had same problem. It so happened needed new rubber and took advantage of the time period to make repairs before mounting new tires. I used a cone shaped grinding stone and rounded out the stem hole, and welded in a heavy gauge flat washer, first bending an edge to conform to the rim's shape. Then redrilled the washer hole to accomodate the replacement of the stem. Figured as long any welding needed done, might as well be accomplished in the affected area, unless the damage is too extensive. The salt solution? A drainage ditch would serve just fine if it's truly just calcium chloride, but otherwise use a waste disposal service! "TU"
