Dave, it appears you have done everything correct,on that end. You say it seems good driving ahead but noisy in reverse, it would seem that it would be noisy in low or 1st also, if it were that particular gear. Just out of curiousity, I wonder if somebody may have gotten a wrong gear in that transmission, originally that the case had broken. They made a lot of changes in those tractors over the years. It would be impossible to know without a parts book. You would need the numbers from the gears to see which ones were to mate up. Sorry I can't be of more help Dave.
