My guess is cam gear broke in hub web area, could be key or broken cam, M Super M had a problem with this when live pump was added, gear was beefed up in web, original had 3 holes, replacement was solid, Part number 6760DB, it was actually from 400/450, the camshaft was also changed from right hand threads on cam gear nut to left hand, this cured loosening of nut, very common on this tractor back in the heydays of M-SM, we used to stock it as parts shelf item in dealer where I worked. 6760DB gear from Case-IH is $163, camshaft 48196DBX is $343.
