This is getting pretty far off topic -- but the size of the tractor depends more on how much money you can spend rather if the tractor "fits". I grew up a farm in the fifties. 90 acres of vegetables. We farmed with a Farmall H and a Ford 8N. Didn't like the Ford for obvious reasons. Probably drove that H for 5000 hours. (I like Farmalls -- currently have an H, M, C, and a Super A and 2 acres). Anyway I worked 29 years for Kansas State University doing tillage, no-till comparisons on small plots, say 40 by 100 feet. We had mostly JD 3020, 4020, 4230, etc along with larger tractors. Generally pulled 15-20 foot sweep plows with 80-100 hp tractors in 1/10 acre plots scattered over about 50 acres (My part of the "farm"). Could I have done it with smaller equipment and an H? Sure, but I wouldn't be retired, because I wouldn't be through yet!

Flax provided the fibre which w
