3 part manifold ?

The small pipe that threads into the manifold on my super C had just rusted apart. After much oil and tapping and turning with a pipe wrench I finally got it out. My ? is this. A bunch of rust and crap fell down in the manifold. Will that go all the way down to the carb or is it made to where it cant fall into the carb. Couldn't tell for sure looking down in it.Don't want to start it If I need to take the carb off and clean it. how long should the replacement pipe be to attach the muffler?Is the manifold just pipe threading? Thanks for any help.
