The seal is easy to replace. However, if you do not have anything on the belt pulley shaft, it is possible you have lost the bushing thatis supposed to be there. When the pulley is not on the shaft, there is supposed to be a retainer put in place on the shaft to hold the bushing. The bushing runs on the seal, rather than the seal running directly on the shaft, so there is a space large enough for the bushing between the seal and the shaft.
