ok you have a simple fix the shaft that keeps working endways like you said has the flat spot this id what releasees the exhaust pressure that shaft is supposed to screw in that housing and the threade are shot SO NOW HERE WE GO take a small piece of flat metal 1/8 thick and 1in wide bend it with a ofset so the one end will have pressure on the shaft and the other end can bolt to the mounting hole on the block use one of the mounting holes for the valve assy this will solve your problem I can send you one or a rebuilt one that the shaft is good but the little piece of metal is all you need to keep the shaft from working endways good luck glad to help gene b
