Another item you have to watch with that pto on 300 and others similar, is getting into deep water. Had to cross a fast flowing river one time. If you get up over that breather the unit will suck itself full of water. If not drained promptly it will do a lot of damage including the seal Steven is talking about. After that incident I always put plastic wrap with an elastic around on that breather near deep water. Water doesn't have to be that deep if there is a current.
