3588 and 3788 same tracter

I was wondering If the only diffrence in these tracters is that the moter is turned up on the 3788. I relize that they have differnt transmisions thou I don't know why? I could of bought a 3788 for 8000$ today but know a guy that has a 3588 that will take 7500$. It has only 500hrs on a overhaul and 6500 on entire tracter. Also is this a better choice than a 2255 oliver which I can get for 5000$. Thanks
