Couldn't have said it any better myself, Harold. I had the same experience as J3Nut. No end of prying, poking tapping. In my case, there was a bead of the old gasket sealer pretty much all the way around. I was able to scrape most of it away Then applied a pentrant and let it soak. Hydraulic pressure is a wonderful thing. It swelled and softened the gasket in a couple of spots so I was able to get a stiff scraper in there to pry. Once it started, it came pretty well. J3Nut, you'll need to think aggressively, without actually goin nuts on this. From your message,I suspect you don't need any reminding that you're working on cast iron (read "brittle", think "don't crack"). A brass or other "soft" hammer can also be good-again you can't go nuts with it, but it's less apt to do harm than steel. The only other thing that comes to mind is that if the head is coming off that hard, it'll take some extra work to get the old gasket and sealer off. I'd recommend tending to that before you clean up the rest as you go along, to avoid ruining good cleaning job. Best of Luck! Scotty
