Farmall M Transmission leak caused by drive gear gouging hole in case

From what I hear this is is a common problem with these tractors. The inner bearing of the drive shaft goes and lets the big drive gear cut a hole in the case. This happened before I bought the tractor and just recently started leaking again.
The previous owner replaced the bearing and tried to seal the hole by welding. Several welding shops have told me they can't or won't try welding it. I would appreciate all input on this problem I can get. Please feel free to email me.
