Hey Dave! You sure about those resistor values you list? The alternator "sees" only the ohm values - not the wattage. So both resistors you have are identical as far as the alternator knows. That issue aside, if the motor now shuts down OK it says the resistance of the 2nd resistor you tried is too HIGH. You need to find a resistor somewhere in between. My experience has been between 10 and 40 ohms (depending on the characteristics of the ignition coil) is right. Or you can simply replace the resistor with a car instrument panel or side marker lamp bulb, which is what I generally do.... Hope this helps!!
