966 pto

finally found a pretty good tractor. 966, pto does not stop running, you can hold it with your hand and stop it. It makes a clunking sound as it is going around without pto engaged. Noise stops when you physically stop pto by holding it. Any Ideas what it is? Going to get a book on it so I don't have to bother you guys unless I run into a problem I can't seem to solve. Thanks for your input everyone.
