I have not worked on an A and I know it is a little bit different, but I had the same thing on a B and a C. On them you could take the large plug out in the front of the steering gear box and tighten the large nut down to take most of the play out. Helped the C a lot and took all the play out of the B.Both of mine didn't have that much wear on them just needed adjustment.I think from what I have heard the A is prone to Have play in the steering sometimes.
