While you are scraping around in there I'd pull the lifter/cam cover off too. I've been running detergent oil in mine and have been changing it regularly. Last fall when I pulled it down to replace the head gasket I went through and checked everything else out. I was amazed in how much crud was built up in those passageways around the lifters. Everything else was clean. Pulling the oil pan is no problem. It drops straight down. A speed brace and swivel socket helps.
