The 274 does have more power for sure. It replaced the 140 after 1979. Not sure how long it was made, I would say 1980-1984 or 1985, since that's when IH was sold. The 274 came with a 3 point hitch, so if your 140 has the 1 point fast hitch, you will need to get new implements.
