If the whitish smoke is really smoke and not steam from condensation or a crack in the head or sleeve. It may be burning lots of oil. If it sat for a while and the cylinders got a little rust on them and the rust sometimes will make it smoke some, It might clean up the more it runs, but I wouldn't hold your breath. As for the Kerosene trick, don't do it with just straight kerosene!!!Kerosene is a very light oil, but it is way too light to keep bearings lubed. If you want to flush it out put a 50/50 mix of oil (Diesel rated oil is real good to use for this!) and kerosene in a can and pour it into the spark plug holes and let it sit for a few days. Roll the engine over slowly by hand several times a day if you can and also rock the engine back and forth to let the rings help clean out the ring grooves. Be sure to do it with the spark plugs out. After it sits a few days you can repeat or go ahead and roll the engine over with the starter at a high speed to blow out through the spark plug holes,any kerosene left in there. If you want to clean out the engine block be sure to use 3 quarts of oil to ONE quart of kerosene in a 4 quart system to flush it out and let it run at idle for about a half hour to an hour, Dont drive it around or put a load on it. Diesel oil is good for this too since it has such a high detergent in it., but go back to the regular oil after you are done flushing it. I do have to tell you this though, 80% of engines I have seen that "just need a good flushing out", really in fact "just need a good overhaul", so you might want to save the money you will spend on oil and filters and time fooling around "hoping it works" and spend it on an engine rebuild kit! There is nothing better than a sweet running Farmall that doesn't smoke, and once it is done, you won't have to touch the engine for years, even if you work it daily!
