Hi Bob, Some times if you look at the back side or flaking paint, you will see the primer. Some of the old primers stuck to the top color coat better than they did to the bare metal.Red primer on a red paint flake would be very hard to tell from just red paint alone. It all depended on how well the metal was prepared before painting.
