On a Positive ground tractor the gennys output connects to the Negative battery post and the charging current patch is as I described above. To avoid confusion in Pos versus Neg grounded tractors, I refer to that battery post (where battery gets charged from genny) as the HOT UNGROUNDED POST. A battery is the same and all works as the DC voltage is BETWEEN the 2 batery posts REGARDLESS which post you tie to a huge hunk of iron and use the iron as the return current path versus havin to run 2 wires to everything.
