Dave, I just went through a similar situation with my 434. Was doing the brakes and thought i would replace the oil seals. The pinion shaft carrier will not come out due to the large bull gear inside protruding up through a gap in the carrier. Have a look at the parts manual on line at Caseih.com and you will see what I mean.
I ended up leaving mine as to get it off I believe you will have to remove the hydraulics off the top and get through to remove the bull gears. I couldn't do mine due to not being able to lift off the hydraulics.
I think i am right, maybe someone else can chip in.
