They are fairly good little tractors, we have a 424 and 444 and both have given good service. The Vet is right about being expensive to work on, but most diesels are. Unlike J. J. Dad has a 484 that he bought new in 81 and it is a better tractor than either the 424 or 444, with better steering, hydraulics and brakes. If glow plugs don't work on the 424 or 444 it ain't going to start if it is 90 outside, or neither of ours do.
