Liftall reservoir question

The liftall on my '47 M stopped working, and I found hydraulic oil running out of the hole in the bottom of the bell housing. Is the bell housing part of the reservoir for the liftall, or has something blown out or cracked to allow the hydraulic fluid to find its way into the bell housing? What normally plugs the hole in the bottom of the bell housing? Doesn't appear to be a threaded hole for a screw in plug. If something has blown out, will I need the M Service Manual, the Liftall manual, or both to fix it? Thanks for any info. Mitch
