farmall M manifold

I have a 48 farmall m with a cracked manifold. The exhaust part is cracked on the backside down the middle, not too wide of a crack but 4 inches long.What would be the better approach, braze it or weld it? And if I were to do either, would preheating be a good idea?Or if I were to weld it, what would be the best rod number? This tractor will only run a bush hog a few times a year. I also have a prolem with gas draining out of the weep hole in the bottom of the carburator after you shut the tractor off. Is this incorrect setting of the float?Thanks!!
