follow up: Finally had a nice day a few weeks ago to look at this problem. The key to the hydraulic pump coupling had sheared. The pump shaft was turning under no load, but would slip when a load was applied. The keyway in the pump shaft was damaged, but I turned the pump up on end, filled the seal cavity with water, and mig welded the keyway area. Cut a standard piece of keystock, reassembled, back in business!
