PTO on My Cub

Just installed a new clutch engagement lever on my Cub and the new plate on the outside that holds the shifter. I have a belly mower on it and it will not stay in gear. It appears that I need another 1/4 inch or so movement on the lever. I am thinking about modifying that plate although it is machined for that spot. I am not anxious to wear out that lever again, it is costly and not so easy to install. Any ideas Are welcome. ED
