Farmall 300 idle problem

I have a '56 Farmall 300 that won't idle smoothly unless the choke is pulled out half way. Runs good above idle speeds. Tried carb adjustments without success. Must have an air leak somewhere, can't figure out where. Guy I bought it from had the idle speed cranked up to avoid the problem. Suggestions?
