IH Tractors built Offshore

I've been away from the farm for a long time (last tractor I ran on a regular basis was a brand new 1959 460), so I'm really out of touch with who builds what and where.

Last week I went to the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia. There was a display of Mahindra tractors and they were a pretty decent looking unit for the most part. One of them looked a lot like some of the utility tractors sold by IH back in the late '70s (just guessing here) as it had a straight line hood and a checkerboard grill. For some reason I'm thinking of a 404 or a 414 (were these IH models?)

When I asked the salesman where these Mahindras were made, he told me in India. When I commented about it looking like an IH, he told me that Mahindra had made smaller tractors for IH until Tenneco/Case/whoever bought out IH. I was also told (by another salesman) that no tractors under 100 hp are built in the USA.

Any truth to these claims?

Another display was of Long tractors. The salesman there told me that some were made in Korea, another type was made in India, and a third type was made in Romania. There were a half-dozen other brands that I had never heard of either, one of which was a Branson, built in Korea.

Are any of these offshore-built tractors worth bringing home? I suspect they're probably OK but that dealer support and parts availability might be a little iffy.

Sure is a strange economic world we live in, eh?
