Speeds on a cub

I posted this message before, but no one answered it so I'll try it again.....
We have a cub that my mom always uses to spread her horse crapp. She doesn't like to go very fast, but she runs it full throttle in second gear. I often argue with her that if she wants to run it at that speed, it should be run in third gear at an idle. I always thought that more wear occurs to the engine at high rpms. Do any of you agree with me? It doesn't really matter since you can't win a fight with your mom.
