I would agree with Phlogiston, you either have some rust in the bendix that is making it bind or you have a dirty connection or bad or undersize cable. All connections have to be clean for 6 volts to work well, even the mating surfaces where the starter bolts to the clutch housing. If you don't have a generator, you might find that a 12V battery will last longer between charges. My '41 B is electric start, no generator, and I could only get a few starts with 6 volts, with 12 volts I get dozens of starts and can leave the battery in the tractor over the winter and start it in the spring. Of course our temps rarely get much below freezing.
