...my bet is that the original bands were re-lined. Your Cub and my A and B share a similar brake band in that the union of the rod and the band form a pocket for moisture to collect. Rust will eventually weaken this joint and the adjuster rod will snap off. I reinforced my bands by welding a 1/8" gusset at the union. FWIW, Ed
