�49 Cub brakes break easily?

Bought my Cub (#60980) in mid-June at a tractor dealer with a good reputation. Has 42� Woods belly mower. Had them paint Cub and replace brakes which weren�t working. Last weekend I was adjusting right brake and with very little turning pressure (not rusted, just paint on the threads) the rod snapped off the brake band. My brakes are the style where the rod and band are a unit. The rod is flattened at the end and brazed/welded to the band at the factory. This weekend I was applying strong but not outrageous pressure to the left brake and it came apart at the same point. A few questions: 1.Are these joints notoriously weak? Or was this likely a bad batch? 2.When replaced, should I drill through joint to accept small bolts as insurance? 3.Not the dealer�s fault the parts were duff, but would dealer likely replace without charge? Or discount? Love my Cub and having fun with it. Up to this point my biggest problem has been that I need more grass/brush to mow. Run out of mowing that needs doing before I and the Cub are ready to quit.
