In my opinion I would take the radiator to a repair shop and let them test it,before i did any major work on the radiator.The last time i used the local repair shop it was a $25 fee for testing,if they found it to be bad that money would got to cost of cleaning and repair.Boiling it out is fine ,if not left in the tank to long.Rodding is hard on the radiator,they will probably boil it first,then rod it and any soft or tender spots are going to break thru and then you might need a whole new core.
